Anti Leprosy Day

30^th January,2014

Anti Leprosy Day is observed internationally on January 30 or its nearest Sunday to increase the public awareness of the Leprosy or Hansen's Disease. This day was chosen in commemoration of the death of Gandhi, the leader of India who understood the importance of leprosy. Leprosy is one of the oldest recorded diseases in the world. It is an infectious chronic disease that targets the nervous system, especially the nerves in the cooler parts of the body - the hands, feet, and face.

World T.B. Day

World Tuberculosis Day (World T.B. Day), falling on March 24 each year, is designed to build public awareness about the global epidemic of tuberculosis and efforts to eliminate the disease. Today tuberculosis causes the deaths of about 1.7 million people each year, mostly in the Third World.

World Health Day

7^th April,2014

World Health Day is celebrated every year on 7 April, under the sponsorship of the World Health Organization (WHO). In 1948, the WHO held the First World Health Assembly. The Assembly decided to celebrate 7 April of each year, with effect from 1950, as the World Health Day. The World Health Day is held to mark WHO's founding, and is seen as an opportunity by the organization to draw worldwide attention to a subject of major importance to global health each year.

Safe Motherhood Day

The White Ribbon Alliance for Safe Motherhood (WRA) is a nonpartisan, non-profit and non-governmental membership organization that aims to decrease maternal and newborn death globally.

International Day of Families

15^th May,2014

May 15 is celebrated as the International Day of the Family. This day highlights the importance of families. This was established by the General Assembly of the United Nations in 1992. It aims at fostering equality, bringing about a fuller sharing of domestic responsibilities and employment opportunities.

International Women’s Health Day

28^th May,2014

In 1987, during a reunion of members of Women's Global Network for Reproductive Rights (WGNRR), 28 May was declared as International Day of Action for Women's Health. In 1999, it was officially recognised by the government of South Africa.The International Women’s Health Day is a day to call for action towards the improvisation of women's health.

World Anti-Tobacco Day

31^st May,2014

World Anti Tobacco Day is observed around the world every year on May 31. It is intended to encourage a 24-hour period of abstinence from all forms of tobacco consumption across the globe. The day is further intended to draw global attention to the widespread prevalence of tobacco use and to negative health effects, which currently lead to 5.4 million deaths worldwide annually.

National Filaria Day

Filaria was identified as one of the diseases to be eliminated globally. On the National Filaria Day, drug distribution is made by door-to-door campaign and some booths are set up at health facilities and town centers, etc. Our goal is to eliminate this disease completely from our country and make future generations live healthy and happy life, free from lymphatic filariasis.

Anti Malaria Month

1^st to 30^th June,2014

Malaria is a disease which is transmitted to humans by the female Anopheles mosquito. (There are 430 known species of Anopheles mosquitoes - only 30-50 of those are responsible for malaria.) Unlike many of the illnesses affecting travelers, Malaria is caused by a parasite (Plasmodium) rather than a virus or strain of bacteria. It is preventable.

World Population Day

World Population Day is an annual event, observed on July 11 every year, which seeks to raise awareness of global population issues. The event was established by the Governing Council of the United Nations Development Programme in 1989. It was inspired by the public interest in Five Billion Day on July 11, 1999 approximately the date on which the world's population reached five billion people.

World Heart Day

World Heart Day is globally held on the last Sunday of September each year to inform people about cardiovascular diseases, which are the biggest cause of death worldwide. The event also aims to promote preventative measures that reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

International Day For Older Person

1^st October,2014

On December 14, 1990 the United Nations General Assembly voted to establish October 1 as the International Day of Older Persons as recorded in Resolution 45/106. The holiday was observed for the first time on October 1, 1991. The holiday is celebrated by raising awareness about issues affecting the elderly, such as senescence and elder abuse. It is also a day to appreciate the contributions that older people make to society.

National Voluntary Blood Donation Day

The observation of National Voluntary Blood Donation Day in our country started on 1st October 1975, under the initiative of Indian Society of Blood Transfusion and Immunohaematology. Since then, the 1st October of each year is being observed throughout the country as the National Voluntary Blood Donation Day.

The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is a United Nations International Day against drug abuse and the illegal drug trade. It has been held annually since 1988 on 26 June, a date chosen to commemorate Lin Zexu's dismantling of the opium trade in Humen, Guangdong, just before the First Opium War in China. The observance was instituted by General Assembly Resolution 42/112 of 7 December 1987.

Mental Health Week

Mental Health Week raises community awareness about mental health issues and is held every October each year to coincide with World Mental Health Day that is held on 10 October. The aim of Mental Health Week is to promote social and emotional wellbeing to the community, encouraging people to maximise their health potential, enhancing the coping capacity of communities, families, individuals and increasing mental health recovery.

World Food Day

Anti AIDS Day

World AIDS Day, observed on 1 December every year, is dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection. Government and health officials observe the day, often with speeches or forums on the AIDS topics. Since 1995, the President of the United States has made an official proclamation on World AIDS Day. Governments of other nations have followed suit and issued similar announcements.

International Day of People with Disability (December 3) is an international observance promoted by the United Nations since 1992. It has been celebrated with varying degrees of success around the planet.
